EM District · beside Benjasiri Park · opened 2023

EmSphere, explained

The youngest of the EM District trio — a food market, an IKEA, a concert arena, and the one mall in Phrom Phong built for after dark.

Quick answer

EmSphere opened in December 2023 beside Benjasiri Park, two minutes from BTS Phrom Phong (E5, south side). Come for the EM Market food hall, the IKEA city store, and — if there's a show on — UOB Live, the arena on top. It runs later than its siblings EmQuartier and Emporium, so it's the district's evening option.

What EmSphere is known for

EM Market food hall

The ground-floor food market is EmSphere's engine room: street-food-style counters in air-conditioning, spanning Thai staples and international snacks. Cheaper and more casual than the sit-down floors above.

UOB Live

The arena on top has quickly become one of Bangkok's go-to venues for international acts. If your visit coincides with a show, book dinner in the building and make an evening of it.

The IKEA city store

A compact IKEA in central Sukhumvit — a genuine everyday convenience if you live nearby, and a novelty stop if you don't.

Late-night rooftop scene

The upper floors lean into nightlife with rooftop venues and a beach-club-style bar — the reason EmSphere is the one EM District mall you might arrive at after dark on purpose.

EmSphere vs EmQuartier vs Emporium

MallCharacterGo for
EmSphereYoung, loud, lateFood market, IKEA, concerts, nightlife
EmQuartierFashion & dining flagshipHelix restaurants, food hall, Water Garden
EmporiumThe luxury original (1997)Luxury brands, Gourmet Market

All three are connected to or within a short walk of BTS Phrom Phong (E5). EmSphere sits beside Benjasiri Park — the park makes a good decompression stop between malls.

Getting there

BTS Sukhumvit Line to Phrom Phong (E5), then the south-side exits toward Benjasiri Park — the mall is a couple of minutes on foot. Arriving for an evening event, allow extra time: on big show nights the station and the park-side pavement are genuinely busy.

Making a night of it?

Several hotels we compare are within a few minutes' walk — convenient after a late show at UOB Live.

EmSphere FAQ

What is EmSphere?

EmSphere is the newest of the three EM District malls, opened in December 2023 beside Benjasiri Park. It deliberately skews younger and later than its siblings: a big food market, an IKEA city store, event space, and the UOB Live arena on top.

How do I get to EmSphere by BTS?

Take the BTS Sukhumvit Line to Phrom Phong (E5) and head for the south-side exits toward Benjasiri Park (Exit 6 direction) — the mall sits beside the park, a couple of minutes from the station.

What is UOB Live?

A purpose-built live-entertainment arena on the upper levels of EmSphere, hosting international touring acts and large events. Check the venue's official channels for the current calendar — on show nights the whole building noticeably fills up.

Is there really an IKEA inside EmSphere?

Yes — a compact "city store" format IKEA, useful for smaller items and design browsing rather than full furniture hauls. For new arrivals furnishing a condo, it is the most convenient IKEA touchpoint in central Sukhumvit.

Is EmSphere open later than EmQuartier and Emporium?

That is its reputation and design intent — the dining and entertainment floors run later than a standard Bangkok mall, which makes it the EM District's after-dinner option. Exact hours vary by floor and venue, so check before a late visit.
